Afterburner Decals 1/48 PACAF Wing Kings

By Frank Anselmo

Here is another new decal sheet from the guys at Afterburner Decals. This one is PACAF WING KINGS, AD 48-014. You might ask: what is a “Wing King”? Well, according to one of the instruction sheets in this package, the term is given to the select few who are chosen to command the various wings of the U.S. Air Force.

This decal sheet provides markings for five different aircraft assigned to wing commanders. All of these decals have been designed for the new Tamiya kit. All of these aircraft are painted in the new F-16 paint scheme of overall medium gray, FS 36270, with the upper surfaces in dark gray, FS 36118. Here are the individual aircraft that can be built using this sheet.

F-16CJ Block 50 CCIP, 91-0357, which is the 35th FW Commander’s jet in 2007.

F-16CJ Block 50 CCIP, 92-3901, which is the 35th FW Commander’s jet in 2006.

There are three separate decal sheets in this package. The main sheet contains all the principal markings, along with a smaller sheet with the map of Alaska for the 354th Commander’s jet in 2007, and a small sheet with the “Let’s Roll” markings for the 35th Commander’s jet in 2006. All of the markings on these sheets are in perfect register, very thin, with only a small amount of carrier film. There are two full sheets, printed on both sides with instructions for decal placement that are in full color.

There is also a sheet with notes about each of the fighter wings on these sheets, along with notes about the different F-16 Blocks represented. Modeling Notes are also included along with a sheet that is a Stencil Guide.

This sheet and all other Afterburner Decals can be ordered directly from their website www.afterburnerdecals.com. This entire decal package comes in its own clear zip lock bag.

My thanks to Scott Brown at Afterburner Decals for this review sample.
