Cutting Edge 1/48 Fw 190D-9s

Another great sheet from Cutting Edge provides markings for a quartet of Doras from 1945. For those who like those late-war camouflage schemes, be ready for some nice options here. First up is W.Nr. 211115 from I./EKG(J), seen at Pilsen in May of 1945. This plane, coded Red 18, has the early flat canopy and a yellow fuselage band immediately aft of the fuselage cross (although the text suggests that this could have been white as well). The undersides are partially painted, making this one a rather interesting Dora.

The second choice is W.Nr. 211929 from Stab/JG 6 at Reichenberg in May of 1945. This plane is rather sedate, with just an arrow/bar on the fuselage. There are no other individual markings, and the camouflage pattern is pretty stock. If you already have a bunch of colorful D-9s, this one might be a good option for a super-detailing job. This aircraft has the blown canopy.

Third up is W.Nr. 210xxx, Brown 9, from 7./JG 26 at Nordhorn-Klausheide in February, 1945. Another aircraft with the early flat canopy, this plane has a yellow cowling underside and rudder. The JG 26 black and white Reich Defense bands are on the rear fuselage, with the black portion shorter than the white. This one is definitely an interesting Dora.

The final option is also from 7./JG 26, this time W.Nr. 210222, Brown 2, at Schleswig in May of 1945. This aircraft is quite a bit plainer than the previous JG 26 aircraft, with just a yellow cowling underside breaking up the camouflage. The Brown 2 fuselage number is repeated on the landing gear doors, and the spinner is split white/black.

The decals themselves are well printed, for the most part. Some of the stenciling is not as sharp as the rest, though. In addition, the yellow is quite translucent, which is not too much of a problem, as there is a white undercoat. However, the alignment on this sample is slightly off, which leaves a noticeable translucent edge. I would recommend trimming that off carefully if your sheet has a similar effect, or, since it only affects the yellow fuselage band, you could just paint that part. Beyond that, the decals should work quite well and give you an excellent selection of Doras to choose from. My thanks to Meteor Productions for the review sample.
