Icarus Decals Stencil Sets

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

Icarus Decals might not be a familiar name with many, but it is one well worth tracking down. These two stencil sheets are excellent examples of the quality and attention to detail that Icarus puts into their sheets. Printed by Cartograf, these are some of the best decals you will find.

32006 – A-7E Corsair II Stencil Data

The Trumpeter 1/32 A-7 is impressive and looks great built up. To really make it stand out, though, this decal sheet will greatly enhance the realism of your finished model, while simultaneously ruining your eyesight after applying decals that number up to 189. A quick count (okay, not exactly quick) of the decals numbered 1 through 50 revealed 177 individual decals. I know, I should have counted all of them, but suffice to say, you will be spending a lot of time cutting and applying these decals. The end result will be well worth the effort though, so pace yourself and spread the application of these stencils out over several days.

48006 – F/RF-4E Phantom II Stencil Data – Grey

I made an effort to count the decals on the 1/32 A-7 sheet because, at 1/32, they are bigger and a bit easier to see. But this sheet, at 1/48 scale and the actual sheet at over twice the size, I’m not even going to attempt a decal count. Suffice to say there are lots and lots. And lots. Plus a few more. These decals are broken apart by section, denoted by letters prefacing the decal number. This keeps the decal sheet from running into 4-digit item numbers, and also helps separate specific RF-4E and F-4E stenciling. Be sure to read the instructions, as these are clearly marked. Icarus also produces this sheet in black (48004) and white (48005), and also produces the black and white stenciling in 1/32 (32001 and 32002, respectively).

Both of these sheets are based off of T.O. 1-1-4 documents, so they should be quite accurate. While applying stenciling can be tedious, the results are well worth the effort, and the high quality of these sheets will greatly enhance your model. My thanks to Icarus Decals for the review samples. Icarus Decals are available from Hannant’s.
