Yellow Wings 1/72 Devastators & Vindicators
|
|
After drooling over the excellent Yellow Wings 1/48 releases, they finally
have catered to my scale of 1/72. These three sheets provide options for
the new Valom Devastator as well as the several Vindicator kits that have
come out in recent years. Starting with the Devastator, there are two
sheets for this aircraft.
The
first sheet provides markings for VT-2 off of the USS Lexington and VT-3
off of the USS Saratoga. The Lexington aircraft all have lemon yellow
tails, while the Saratoga aircraft have white tails. The rest of the section
markings are the same between the two, with either red, white, blue, black,
green or yellow section markings. As this sheet is specifically for section
leaders, these aircraft all feature solid color cowlings. However, extra
numbers are provided for those who want to build a non-section leader
aircraft.
The
second Devastator sheet provides markings for VT-5 off of the Yorktown
and VT-6 off of the Enterprise. The Yorktown aircraft have red tails,
while the Enterprise aircraft have blue tails. The rest of the markings
are similar to the previous sheet, with all the section colors being the
same. Like the above sheet, the decals are designed for the section leaders,
but extra numbers are provided to build any aircraft. Both sheets provide
a total of six squadron insignias for each unit, allowing you to build
three aircraft from each unit. Interestingly, the first sheet has the
wing stripes in section colors, but no fuselage stripes, while the second
sheet has the fuselage stripes, but no wing stripes. Mixing and matching
these two sheets together will provide matching sets, though.
The
final 1/72 sheet provides markings for the SB2U Vindicators from either
VB-2 off of the USS Lexington or VB-3 off of the USS Saratoga. The Lexington
aircraft have lemon yellow tails, and the Saratoga aircraft white tails.
Like the Devastator sheets, this sheet provides markings for all the section
leaders, with decals for the fuselage stripes and wing stripes. Six squadron
markings are included, allowing for three aircraft from each unit to be
built.
The only thing missing on these sheets is the national insignia, which
are available on another Yellow Wing decal sheet. The quality is quite
high and should prove to be quite nice to use
My thanks to Yellow Wings
decals for the review samples.
