Back in 1973, Dr. Alfred Price wrote what was soon to
be a classic work in World War Two aviation history. In the thirty plus
years that followed, Dr. Price accumulated new material and research that
built upon that original work, and this new revised edition incorporates
that information. The resultant two-volume set is most likely going to
be the most comprehensive analysis of the strategic bombing offensive
against Germany during WW2.
This is the second and final volume of that set, and it continues right
where the first left off. Like the first volume, the author draws extensively
on references from both sides, and presents a balanced analysis. This
second volume highlights the daylight domination by US forces, as well
as the nighttime raiding by British Bomber Command. The combined effort
and its effects is well presented in both the text and in the many photos
spread throughout the pages. For good measure, a handful of color profiles
are also included, showing some of the color schemes worn by these aircraft.
With the first volume, this book makes for what is likely to be the
best single reference on the strategic bomber offensive over Europe. If
bombers are your thing, these books are ones you cannot be without. My
thanks to Specialty Press
for the review copy.
