DRAW Decal Set 10/20/44-767-23 Continental 767-200s

By Mike Egan

profile

In 1998, Continental Airlines ordered Boeing 767-200ER aircraft to complement their existing order for sixteen 767-400ERs. Deliveries began in 2000, with ten aircraft eventually joining the fleet. DRAW Decal has added this subject to their ever-expanding line of airliner decals.

decal imageThis decal is intended for the Doyusha 1/100th scale 767-200 kit, a converted 1/144th scale Revell-Germany B767-300 kit or the 1/200th scale Hasegawa 767-200 kit. My review sheet is the 1/200th scale set. The instructions provide a full color left side profile of the aircraft. The upper fuselage is gloss white, with the lower half Boeing gray – as are the wings, horizontal stabilizers, and engine nacelles. The modeler needs to paint the vertical tail white to give proper backing to the one-piece tail decals that include the blue background and gold globe. All cockpit and passenger windows, with delicate silver frames, are included on the decal sheet. As with all newer DRAW Decal releases, the titles, windows, and door outlines are laid out on the decal sheet so as to be used as one complete piece, ensuring proper window, door, and title spacing. (Older DRAW Decal sheets are being re-designed to include this handy layout feature) These and all other ALPS-type decals are printed on one continuous layer of clear carrier film, and thus, each decal element MUST be cut individually from the sheet prior to soaking in water. Extra care is required when using these decals, as they are also thinner than most silkscreen printed decals.

As with all other recent DRAW Decal sheets, the quality of these decals is outstanding. The color saturation is great, particularly with the gold metallic in the Continental tail logo and cheatline stripe, and the silver window frames. Rendering of the smaller items is quite crisp and clear. Also included are overwing escape paths, SkyTeam Alliance logos, and a thin silver strip to represent the bare metal leading edge of the vertical stabilizer. Three registration numbers are printed, with extra numbers provided to model any Continental 767-200. The DRAW Decal website has downloadable instructions in .pdf format for converting the Revell 767-300 kit into a –200 (Click on the Downloads Link).

This is a great decal for a very attractive short-body 767. Review sample courtesy of DRAW Decal. Be sure to visit the DRAW Decal website to see the entire line of terrific decals.
