This is the essential reference book for anyone interested in the Me 262.
This single volume ties all other books together.
Every known and identified Me 262 has been included. Some 1,200 of the
1,500 aircraft constructed have been identified in this book.
The Me262 was first flown as a pure jet on July 18 1942. And on July
25 1944, it became the first jet aircraft used in combat. Fewer than 25%
of the planes built ever flew in combat.
The first part of the book lists the Werknummer (work numbers) from
prototypes and test aircraft through to all variants of operational aircraft
together with known pilots, assigned units and recorded flights. It also
lists all the manufacturing plants in Germany, Austria and Czechoslavakia.
A photo of each aircraft is included by its’ entry in the Werknummer
log.
Part two of the book shows aircraft losses and unknown Werknummer. The
fate of each individual aircraft is given where possible.
This book is a must for the Me 262 historian to use as a cross reference
when you have a photograph with a number and want to have more information
on that specific aircraft.
I highly recommend this book for any Luftwaffe aficionado.
My thanks to Specialty Press for the review copy.
