Red
Roo 1/72 & 1/48 Meteorites Aerobatic Team
In the mid-1950s, 75 Squadron of the RAAF put together
an aerobatic team consisting of their Meteors. Called the Meteorites,
these planes were distinctive with their bright blue tails and Meteorite
logos. Red Roo has released a set of decals allowing the modeler to build
one of several of the Meteorite aircraft. The basic scheme is the same
for all of these, that being overall painted aluminum with a bright blue
tail and wingtips. The bullet fairing on the tail is painted red, and
the nose tip is blue, outlined in red. The serials provided are A77-870,
A77-871, A77-874, A77-875, and A77-882, although not all the pilots’
names are known for these aircraft.
The decals are typical of Red Roo, notable in their thinness. The quality
is quite good, and the registration is spot on. What really makes Red
Roo decals so good, though, are
the instructions. There are four A4-sized pages, full of information and
photos of the team, the individual aircraft, and the decals themselves.
This level of information is a joy to have, as there is no guesswork involved.
These decals will make for a great Meteor subject, and one that is not
very common. The colorful markings will stand out from the standard Meteor
fare, and the quality of the decals will make finishing one of these very
simple. My thanks to Red Roo
for the review sample. |
