"Light the Titanic"
LED Lighting for Revell's 1/570 Titanic Model Kit

Now here is something a little out of the ordinary - a lighting kit for the 1/570 Revell RMS Titanic. Eliot Brown of Kingston Vacuum Works/WarmPlastic.com has put together a very comprehensive package allowing the builder to dramatically improve on the Revell Titanic.

The first thing you notice upon opening the box is everything is very securely packed in bubble wrap. The contents of the large box include: three circuit boards, 9 resistors, 15' ea red and yellow wire, 40" fibre optic strand, 65 yellow LEDs, 3 double AA battery holders, switch, magnetic switch, red LED, yellow LED, manual, sidelight diagram and dome cover kit.

The manual is an eight page, full colour booklet that includes: list of tools, References, hints and tips, preparing the circuit boards, choosing switch types, installing the LEDs, navigation lights, circuit diagram and finally notes on how Eliot built his model. Other kit documentation is a diagram showing the location and sizes of all the portholes and windows in the hull.

In addition to the above, the kit also came with a photoetched sheet to replace the kit compass platform. Whether this normally comes with the lighting kit or not I'm afraid I don't know and will have to ask Eliot.

Conclusion

This seems to be a very well thought out kit and includes everything needed to light up the Titanic. To quote from the assembly manual .. " . . the very least you need to do is get the model, drill the portholes, replace the grand staircrase covers, assemble and install this kit to your degree of satisfaction."

My thanks to Eliot Brown of Kingston Vacuum Works/Warmplastic.com for the review sample
