Yellow-Wings Decals 1/48th scale
48-009 - SB2U-1/2 Vindicator Wing Chevrons, Fuselage Bands, .......&
Squadron Emblems
48-013 - SBD-1/2 Dauntless Wing Chevrons, Fuselage Bands,
.... ... .......& Squadron Emblems
Just in to IM from Yellow-Wings Decals are two beautifully done decal
sets of wing chevrons, fuselage bands, & squadron emblems for 48th
scale pre-war SB2U-1 & -2 Vindicators and the early SBD Dauntless.
Set
48-009, is for the SB2U-1/2 Vindicator, and includes wing chevrons and
fuselage bands for the six section leader aircraft from squadrons VB-2,
VB-3, VB-4 and VS-72. The set is specifically designed to be combined
with YWD 48-007 and/or –008. When combined with either or both of
these set it will allow the modeler to do two different section leader
aircraft from either/or the carrier Lexington, and Saratoga (48-007),
or the Ranger and/or Wasp (48-008). Actually 48-009 has three sets of
Landing Signal Officers (LSO) tail markings (red, white & black) which
gives the modeler enough decals to do a third aircraft depending on the
carrier tail color choice. Lastly, the sheet also includes the tri-colored
propeller tip markings.

Set 48-013, is for the SBD-1/2 Dauntless, and like 48 -009 includes
wings chevrons and fuselage bands for the six section leader aircraft
from squadrons VB-2, VMB-1/2, and VS-2. This set also includes the red
white and blue vertical rudder stripes unique to Marine aircraft as well
as the black wing walks. This set is specifically designed to be used
with YWD 48-011 and/or 48-012. When combined with either or both of these
it will allow the modeler to do two different section leader aircraft.
When combined with 48-011 there are markings for two separate Marine SDBs
from VMB 1and/or 2. Likewise when combined with 48-012 there are marking
for two different Navy SDB section leader aircraft from squadrons VB-2
and/or VS-2 off of the carrier Lexington. This set also includes the tri-colored
propeller tip markings.
Conclusion:
Needles to say I am a big fan of American pre-WWII military aircraft.
To say the least they are some of the most colorful planes to exist, even
when compared with Golden Age civil or racing types. Yellow Wings Decals,
in my humble opinion, is doing an excellent job of not only bringing these
beautiful aircraft to our attention but also giving the model builder
multiple choices of marking with their accurate high quality decals.
Many thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for supplying this sample sets.
