Aviprint 1/32 F-16 and Ki 84 Decals
Overview
This is a fairly new name in the decal world, and they have made a
serious splash in the market of 1/32 scale aircraft. Their latest 1/32
releases are aimed at two new kits, namely the Academy 1/32 F-16C and
the Hasegawa Ki 84. Both of these kits are excellent models and perfect
subjects for new decals. So without further fanfare, here's what Aviprint
has to offer.
32003 - Ki 84 Hayate
If you want some colorful Ki 84 schemes, this is the sheet for you.
There are a total of three aircraft presented on this sheet, and all
three will definitely stand out. The first is a Ki 84 of the 104th Sentai,
Shinkyo, Manchukuo, in August 1945. This aircraft has a white chevron
on the fuselage side, outlined in blue. The wingtips and fin tip are
finished in white. On the tail is the 104th marking consisting of an
arrow tipped with a number 4 going through a number 0.
Next up is a Ki 84 from the 182nd Shinbu-Tai, Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefekture,
in August of 1945. This aircraft has a red spinner, a large yellow lightning
bolt on the nose, and the standard 182nd Shinbu-Tai emblem on the tail.
Also on the tail are some yellow Kanji characters and a red 1, outlined
in white.
The final option also comes from a Special Attack Unit, this one being
a Ki 84 from the 57th Shinbu-Tai, Shimodate, Ibaragi Prefekture, on May
17, 1945. Starting at the back, this plane carries the stylized squadron
number with wings, typical of the 57th Shinbu-Tai. On the lower rudder
is a white 01. The spinner is red. What makes this one really dramatic,
though, is the large yellow eagle carrying a bomb that is painted underneath
the cockpit. This one will definitely stand out.
This is an excellent decal sheet that will really finish that Hasegawa
Ki 84 kit in an attractive and colorful fashion.
32002 - F-16CJ Fighting Falcon
This timely sheet provides markings for the new Academy 1/32 F-16 kit.
While the sheet itself is small, it provides comprehensive markings for
three aircraft. The first option is from the 22nd FS, 52nd FW, USAFE,
in Spangdahlem, Germany between 2001 and 2003. It was the flagship of
the 52nd FW and carried a large "Let's Roll" emblem on the fuselage,
along with colorful 52FW tail markings.
The next option is from the 77th FS, 20th FW, USAF, based out of Shaw
AFB. Another flagship aircraft, this one was flown by Brigadier General
Chuck Horner. It carries all the unit badges of the 20th FW on the air
intake, along with the name 'Sumter/Gamecock City' on the fuselage. All
four 20th FW squadron colors are presented in the tail band, and the
tail markings indicate 20th FW.
The third option is another variation of the 20th FW flagship, this
time reflecting a reorganization in 2003 that saw the loss of one of
the squadrons. This is reflected in only three colors on the tail band,
and only three unit badges surrounding the 20th FW unit badge on the
air intake. Like the other one, this too is called 'Sumter/Gamecock City'.
A note on both of these aircraft, though. There is a typo on the decal
sheet that results in the word 'Gamecoock' instead of 'Gamecock'. It
should not be too difficult to remove the extra 'o' and move the other
letters together, but be aware of this before you place the decals on
the model.
Conclusion
These are some excellent decals designed for some great kits, and they
are sure to be quite popular. The quality of the decal is very good,
with excellent registration and thin film. For more information on these
decals, visit Aviprint's website.
