Attack 1/72 38(t) ausf. M Munitionsfahrzeug
|
 |
History
Since I have already reviewed another
38(t) variant in this issue I will keep it short. This is version
is yet another example of Germany's use of indigenous vehicles from other
countries. The Munitionsfahrzeug was basically a Grille ausf. M without
main gun mount.
The Kit
The box art of this Attack kit shows a Munitionsfahrzeug in winter camouflage
scheme. When you open the box you will find nine part sprues, one in black
and the others molded in a light gray styrene. My sample kit had sink
marks on some parts. Overall detail is average at best. Also included
in this kit is a decal sheet and photo-etch sprue. The instruction sheet
is multi-lingual (Polish, English, German and French). There is a numbered
parts location diagram.
 The
five-step kit assembly begins with the external front and lower hull in
steps 1 and 2. My first observation on the lower hull sides is not favorable.
The detail of the molded-on suspension arms are not crisp as with UM's
38(t) chassis. The rivet detail is missing. The road wheels are OK but
the detail on the drive sprockets and idlers are faint. Be warned, the
detail on the length and length tracks are sub-par. The sprue is so close
to the edge of the tracks that it is a challenge to remove them. Steps
3 through 5 complete the rear hull and compartment. This is the best part
of this kit. Since the Munitionsfahrzeug is an open-top vehicle you get
a decent reproduction of the interior. During this assembly you will use
the photo-etch parts, which I consider the best element of this kit. You
get a stowage box, muffler guard and brackets.
 When
assembly is finished you have two choices of Munitionsfahrzeugs to paint
and decal. One is from the 1st Panzer Division (LSAH) in 1944 France (Spring)
and the other is from 2nd Ski. Jager Division 1944 Eastern front (winter).
There is a paint reference for Tamiya, Humbrol and Agama.
Conclusion
 Attack
is known for producing some unique military vehicle kits in 1/72 scale
especially the 38(t) chassis variants. Unfortunately, their kits lack
when it comes to the level of detail and mold quality. They are also a
bit pricey compared to UM's 38(t). See my review and pics of UM's
38(t) ausf. C in this issue and you can compare the chassis detail.
I would like to thank Squadron Mail
Order for the review kit.
