Tally
Ho! 1/32 Stencil Decals: Fw 190 & Spitfire
I have long been a proponent of stencil decals, as I feel they add that
little bit of realism necessary for an accurate model. Unfortunately,
most kits out there avoid stenciling, either for matters of cost or lack
of reference. Tally Ho! has long recognized this need and has come out
with many stencil sheets in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32. A couple of recent 1/32
sheets cover two important aircraft of the Second World War, the Supermarine
Spitfire (Merlin-engined) and the Focke Wulf Fw 190/Ta 152.
Starting
with the Fw 190 stencil sheet, this sheet covers the Fw 190A/F/G/D and
Ta 152, although the instructions just show the Fw 190A. This is a very
complete stencil set, with two colors of dashed lines included for the
upper wings, several fuel filler triangle options, and optional colors
for most of the rest of the stencils. The markings for the trim tabs are
provided in two styles, either "Nicht Anfassen" or "Nicht
Verstellen," with each style presented in both red and white. Both
types of propeller blade markings are also included. With the recent release
of Hasegawa's 1/32 Fw 190, this is a very timely and welcome decal release.
Moving
on to the Spitfire stencil sheet, this one is much more bland than the
Fw 190 sheet, mainly because all the stenciling on the Spitfire is black.
While perhaps not as colorful, this sheet is by no means less complete,
and this should finish out your Spitfire model quite nicely. The instructions
are quite clear and show all the various optional markings. As a bit of
color, the sheet also includes several styles of pennants for the fuselage
sides.
The stencil sheets put out by Tally Ho! are an excellent addition to
any model and should greatly improve the finished look of your favorite
Spitfire or Fw 190. |
