Draw Decal 1/144 Southwest Boeing 727s
When Southwest first took to the air, it did not have its signature
Boeing 737 aircraft, but rather they flew Boeing 727s. One livery had
a greenish ochre color (seen
here),
this being a former Braniff aircraft used briefly by Southwest in 1979.
The other Southwest 727s (a total of six) were finished in the standard
desert gold color. With the recent release of the nice Minicraft 1/144
727 kit, it is nice to see Draw Decal release these two Southwest decal
sheets.
Set 44-727-5 covers N406BN, that one-off Braniff aircraft finished
with that odd greenish ochre. The titles are in an interesting script
style as well. The decal is set up so that the titles, doors, and windows
are all laid out as a one-piece decal, making application very simple.
The decal sheet provides the white separation between the greenish ochre
and the red and orange stripes, so some careful measuring and masking
will be needed.
Set 44-727-6 takes care of the other six Southwest 727 aircraft. Like
the above sheet, only the white separation between the desert gold and
the red and orange is provided, so mask carefully. The titles, doors,
and windows are also a one-piece fit. Multiple registration numbers are
provided to build any one of the six Southwest 727s.
The decals printed by Draw Decal are done on an Alps-type printer and
therefore feature a continuous clear film. The decals are thin and very
sharp, though, and there should be no problem in application. Visit
their website for these and other great airliner decals.
