US
Export Colors of WWII
Aviation Color Primers No. 1
By Dana Bell
Meteor Productions, ©2004
Softbound, 20 Pages
This new reprint of Dana Bell's Aviation Color Primer is a very welcome
reprint, as it represents probably the most complete reference on export
colors. With the Lend Lease program sending many US aircraft to England
during World War Two, some sort of cross reference is essential in establishing
color differences between British and American aircraft. This book provides
just that, and in great detail. The aircraft covered in this primer include
a wide variety of planes, including the Hudson, Goose, and Wildcat, and
include painting diagrams for several.
In addition to the history of export camouflage colors, Dana Bell provides
a detailed analysis of the ANA colors and their uses. The author does
this by taking the original government documents and annotating them,
clearing up many of the uncertainties surrounding the ANA color system.
This will be an invaluable reference tool for the modeler and historian
alike.
I hope that Meteor Productions and Dana Bell continues to produce these
Aviation Color Primers, as it is definitely a subject that needs to be
covered. If you are at all interested in building exported US aircraft,
this is a publication you should definitely pick up. My thanks to Meteor
Productions for the review sample.
