Back in March of 2003, I did a review of the Revell of Germany 1/72nd
scale kit of the Blohm und Voss BV-222 'WIKING' (review still available
on line). I will not repeat the history of the aircraft again then.
The kit is great. The only negative thing about it is that Revell did
not provide a cradle or a beaching dolly in the kit. So, you would have
to sit it on its hull, tipping to one of the wing floats.
Shortly after purchasing the kit, I heard that CMK had released a kit
of the beaching dolly in resin with PE parts. Recently, I did a trade
with a net friend in Wales UK of some armor kits in exchange for this
new CMK kit. He ordered it, in turn, from a shop in Poland and had them
mail it directly to me.
The kit comes in a very sturdy small box that has a hinged flap top.
The box art is a sticker with a color painting of the beaching dolly with
the BV222 sitting in the background.
Inside the kit are two zip-lock cello bags full of chalk white resin
parts, a fret of PE (sealed in its own cello bag) and the instruction
sheet. There are no decals, as they aren't really necessary.
The resin parts consist of: a V shaped base plate, two walkway parts,
four bulkheads, two walkway tread plates, four legs with axles, eight
wheels, two horizontal support panels and a V shaped end beam..
The PE fret gives us the side railings, tow shackle, and some round
access plates.
The small instruction sheet folds into four pages. Page one starts
with the parts drawings followed by the first assembly step. Pages 2 and
3 give us the balance of five total assembly steps. Page 6 calls out a
6th drawing, but it is not an assembly step per se. It just shows the
BV222 sitting atop the completed beaching dolly. This is followed by a
listing of 12 other kits offered by CMK in their accessory kit line and
a list of three Humbol paint colors to use to complete the kit.
It will be easy to paint as there are only three colors involved: Medium
gray, black (for the tires) and natural wood (for the walkways).
I think this will greatly complement the Revell of Germany BV222.
Highly recommended.
