Yellow Wings Decals 1/48 US Navy TBD-1 Devastator
Wing Chevrons, Fuselage Bands, and More

The pre-war U.S. Navy was an incredibly colorful Navy, especially with
the aviation arm. The third release from Yellow Wings decals begins to
show why this era of aviation was so colorful. On this sheet are many
colored bands, both for the wings and for the fuselage. The decal sheet
includes blue, green red, white, yellow, and black bands, along with unit
emblems for VT-2, VT-3, VT-5, and VT-6. Finishing the sheet are several
red/yellow/blue prop tip decals, as well as propeller blade logos. A small
additional sheet provides wingwalk areas.
In
addition to the nice decals, the sheet comes with a detailed set of instructions.
These include all the necessary application instructions, as well as a
comprehensive color reference chart that explains what the different colors
mean for the tail, fuselage, wings and cowling. This is a great reference
and will help keep things straight when it comes time to finish your Devastator
(or any pre-war USN aircraft, for that matter).
The decals are printed by Microscale and have good, dense color and
excellent registration. There should be no surprises with these decals.
If you have a Monogram Devastator just waiting to be built, this is a
great set of decals for it.
My thanks to Yellow Wing Decals for the review sample. Check out their
website for other great pre-war USN decals.
