AML 1/72 Messerschmitt
Bf 109D Upgraded

Overview
This is a re-release of AML's 1/72 Bf 109D kit, which was reviewed back
in November
of 1999. Since the basic plastic hasn't changed from the original
review, I'll refer you back to that first review and just touch on the
new resin detail pieces.
The Resin Upgrade
The most noticeable addition to this kit is a complete resin interior.
This new interior has separate sidewalls that fit into the fuselage halves.
The one-piece cockpit floor and bulkhead is nicely done as well, and the
resin seat is a great replacement for the plastic piece. Once completed,
this new resin interior will look much better than the original plastic
interior.
The
interior is not the only resin pieces, though. Also included are all the
control surfaces, including the flaps, ailerons, elevators and rudder.
All of these have razor thin trailing edges and a somewhat subdued internal
structure. These parts have no fabric texture, which is preferred. Also
included are a pair of resin wheels, with flattened bottoms. I am still
not sure on this flattened wheel thing, but these look to be well done.
Conclusion
This is a good model of the early Bf 109 and the additional resin details
will really add a lot to the kit. Our thanks to Squadron for the review
sample.
