Greg Krasel Memorial
By Al Superczynski
I remember back many years ago when I first saw a sheet of Microscale's then-new aircraft decals. I thought it was really neat that one could actually do a model in some alternate scheme without having to resort to hand painting! What I didn't realize at first was just how much better they were than kit decals of the time (mid to late sixties). It was a real revelation finding out how thin they were and how well they conformed to every little surface detail by using them in conjunction with Microset & Microsol. Talking to other guys in the hobby shop led to my discovery of IPMS and, wonder of wonders, other serious modelers! All this sowed the seeds of AMS and modeling has never been the same for me since. I bought every sheet I could lay my hands on and still have some that are over 30 years old. Microscale was very prolific to say the least - I doubt that any other decal manufacturer has come anywhere close to the number of different sheets they issued, or that any ever will. Of course I've bought and used other aftermarket decals over the years, but none have ever had quite the impact on me that Microscale did; I get a big nostalgia rush every time I thumb through my collection of Microscale/Superscale decals. Thanks for the memories, Greg! Al Superczynski |
